Toolbars implemented as web browser plug-ins have become a popular advertising platform for major brands, as well as smaller spyware and malware vendors. Browser toolbars are commonly bundled with installers for other "partner" products as an "opt-out" default without the user's explicit consent. Not all toolbars are bundled with spyware or malware.

Bookmarks toolbar

A bookmarks toolbar or favorites toolbar features in a number of modern web browsers, including Mozilla Firefox,^[4] Safari, and Google Chrome, and serves as a means of persistently presenting a user's most necessary Web bookmarks. Folders of bookmarks (and, in the case of Firefox, live bookmarks of web feeds) are represented in a bookmark toolbar as drop-down lists which display the titles and (if the site was already visited and cached) favicons of bookmarked websites.

A website toolbar is a feature which can be found on many modern websites, including Facebook, MySpace and CNET.com. A website toolbar serves as a means of persistently presenting visitors to a website with a means of quickly performing many common site functions such as sharing articles of content on a social network, searching through the home website or presenting features which further enhance the community-aspects to a website such as live chat features. In 2009, a range of free options for everyday site owners to include their own website toolbar on their webpages was made available by companies such as Wibiya and Meebo via an easy to install Wizard or alternatively JavaScript embed code. Custom-made website toolbars are also possible ^[6] and many open-source plugins are also freely available for this purpose. Website toolbars differ from conventional browser toolbars in that they appear only when a user is on a specific site, whilst Browser toolbars appear in a web browser persistently regardless of which site a user is on.

Search engine toolbar guide

Search engines, do you use them? Of course you do! Most if not all internet users use them at some stage or another, and why not, they are very easy to use, simply go to the address of the engine be it Google.com, Alltheweb.com or any other engine and enter keywords relating to what you want to find and viola!

However many engines now provide an even easier, more direct way to access their databases through the use of small applications known as toolbars. These search engine toolbars provide extra search facilities and surfing facilities usually from within Internet Explorer but some toolbars now have Netscape alternatives lest with limited capabilities.

These extra search facilities will allow you to conduct a search from your browser without actually having to visit the search engines site itself. The toolbar will automatically bring you to the engines results page and you can take it from there. When I speak of extra surf facilities I'm mainly speaking of certain features which aid web surfing such as the Google toolbars latest feature, a pop-up ad blocker. I like most people find pop-up ads very very annoying, so this is really good feature.

These features of toolbars are very handy for the ordinary surfer, but what about us guys and gals - the webmasters that make the web happen. Do any of these so called toolbars have elements within them that will help us get more visitors, more profit and hence more success? Yes, they do.

This article is your guide to using the two main toolbars available on the net from Alexa and Google to your advantage while promoting and running your site. A note before we start, the Alexa toolbar search feature is powered by Google and not by Alexa as one might expect, Alexa simply provides extra information in such a way that webmasters will find very useful and helpful.
Alexa toolbar

Continuing with the order mentioned above I'll start with Alexa. With over 10 million downloads the Alexa toolbar is very popular with surfers. The big attraction to webmasters however of using the Alexa toolbar is its ability to provide you with information about the site which you're currently visiting.

This comes in the form of Alexa's ranking figure, which in turn comes from the information that each Alexa toolbar installed on a users machine sends back to Alexas server when the user is surfing such as the URL they are currently visiting.

Admittedly when I first downloaded the Alexa toolbar, I was confused over this ranking figure which is displayed on the center of the toolbar. The confusion stemmed from the fact that I was unsure whether a better and more popular site would have a larger ranking number representing it in the Alexa site database or indeed a smaller one. The former seemed more right initially as I presumed this was related to the number of page views Alexa users had given a particular site over a certain time span, so the bigger the better.

However in my quest for the truth I hit Google and Yahoo to search for a definitive guide on Alexas toolbar, while scanning the results on Yahoo I noticed that its Alexa ranking figure was one, intrigued I continued to the Google.com site where I seen a ranking of five. I knew that these two sites where immensely popular so obviously the lower the figure the better. The figure relates to a sites popularity with Alexa users. Yahoo's figure meant that it was currently the most popular internet destination with Alexa users and hence Google was currently the fifth most popular site with Alexa users.

This provides webmasters with a great insight to the popularity of a website, which can be used to determine sites that are worthwhile link exchange partners or worthwhile to spend your advertising dollars on.

If you've read my articles on reciprocal linking you will remember me saying that it's better to 'link up' with a more popular site rather than 'link down' with a less popular site. Alexa can help you to always 'link up', simply visit your own site and check your ranking and then search for sites related to yours but with a better ranking.

Using Alexa over the Google toolbar pagerank feature to locate good link partners has the advantage of not being search engine based. That is Alexa provides a ranking based on the popularity of a site based on actual visits and not incoming links like the pagerank system is based. I prefer to use Alexa myself because I know the benefits of the free long term traffic that can come from reciprocal links alone, discarding the fact that they can help your ranking on Google and other engines.

Other tools included on the Alexa toolbar include the ability to view contact information for a site so you can contact them directly for a link exchange proposal and backwards links pointing to a site, so you can see who your competitors exchange links with and hence ask them to exchange with your site too. The Alexa toolbar is available free of charge from www.alexa.com. Currently however no Netscape or Opera versions are available.

Google toolbar

We have touched upon the Google toolbar above, briefly. Now onto the full details of the Google toolbar and its features for webmasters. The Google toolbar is currently the most popular toolbar available for download on the net. Thousands of webmasters use it, as it is an excellent competitive intelligence tool, it even has its own forum dedicated to it at the highly popular http://www.webmasterworld.com discussion forums site.

First of all I will mention the different elements of the Google toolbar and then describe how webmasters can use them to their advantage. The Google toolbar includes most notably the Pagerank scale, cache version tool, highlight button, backwards links tool, category button, search site button and a similar pages tool.

The Pagerank scale is likely to be the most popular feature of the Google toolbar, it allows webmasters to check the importance of a certain website within the Google index. The Pagerank™ scale goes from 1 to 10 on the toolbar. A less important site is a site with a PR of 1 and a very very important site is a site with a PR of 10.

To get the Pagerank figure you have to hold the mouse over the Pagerank scale which is a green horizontal bar located usually in the center of the toolbar, however this depends on your personal configuration of the toolbar. This information is very useful to webmasters wishing to swap links not just for extra traffic from other sites but also for better rankings in Google as it allows you to see how important Google views a potential link partner to be. Remember Google says:

"Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important." "

To use this tool, you should in conjunction with the Alexa ranking figure search for sites related to yours with a good ranking figure in Alexa and a medium to high ranking on the Pagerank scale on the Google toolbar. Both toolbars can be visible at the same time so this is very easy to do.

The cache version tool although not as important as the Pagerank scale is quite useful when used with the highlight button. Let me explain. When you click through to a site from a results page in Google you are taken to that site's current page, you are not necessarily taken to the page that Google examined to determine its ranking, that page could have been updated weeks or even months ago.

This presents a problem if like many webmasters out there you like to examine your competitors pages to try and determine why Google liked them so much and hence gave them a good ranking. However Google being Google has this very neat feature, called page caching, whereby the Googlebot will take a snapshot of the page which it last examined to determine ranking so you can see the way the page was then.

While on the cached version of the page you should enter your keywords or keyphrases into the search box (don't press enter) and press the highlight button tool. This will highlight all the occurrences of your search terms with different colors. The highlight tool will allow you to get a quick overview of the keyword distribution of a competing page, the bigger the highlight, the more weight that section of page had in determining that pages position in the results of a search. The highlight tool is also useful for finding hidden text if you suspect your competitors might be using such a method.

Like Alexa, Googles toolbar also has a backward links tool, whereby you can see all sites which link to a particular site. Useful for siphoning traffic away from your competitors by finding who links to them and then emailing them webmasters to link to you too.

The category button allows users to quickly locate the category that a website is listed within in the Google directory, if indeed it is listed at all. This allows webmasters to search for quality sites to link with, as a listing in the ODP (Google gets its directory results from the ODP) usually indicates a site of high quality, it also allows them to visit that category page and quickly find sites to link with that have a high ranking on the pagerank scale. This is because results in the Google directory are automatically returned in order of descending pagerank, the best and most popular being at the top of the page.

Finally we come to the site search button and the similar pages tool which I will only briefly touch on. The site search button allows webmasters to see immediately how many pages of their site Google has indexed. They simply visit their homepage and press the site search button and enter something generic that will always occur on every page, like the letter 'a' or 'e', the engine will then return results with all indexed pages.

The similar pages tool will provide you with, not surprisingly links to pages which Google deems similar, these links are prime candidates for link exchanges as Google already knows they are related to your industry. The Google toolbar for Internet Explorer is available free of charge from http://toolbar.google.com. A less sophisticated feature limited Netscape version is available free of charge from http://googlebar.mozdev.org

Well here we are at the end of another article, you have just learned the 'ins' and 'outs' of using two very popular and very free tools in your quest for success. However Alexa and Google are not the only two providers of free toolbars on the net, many engines are now offering them as an added incentive to use their systems. By now, most web marketers know that the Alexa.com ranking of their site is important. It gives an independent measure of your monthly unique visitors and reach on the Web to potential advertisers.

To potential clients, it gives them a vehicle by which they can research your site, and if your ranking or reviews are favorable, an air of credibility as well.

Across the Web, a trend is growing - webmasters display their graphical ranking on the front pages of their sites, and there has been a resurgence in reviews of websites on Alexa.com by the average web surfer. Yes, all this is common knowledge even among many new to selling their wares online.

But did you know that there are other ways you can use Alexa.com to your advantage, specifically exploiting some of their latest changes to your advantage? Here are 8 ways to use Alexa to promote your site.

   1.

      You probably already knew that Alexa Internet is owned by Amazon. But did you know that the reviews done on Alexa are now being linked to Amazon.com? Or, that the new reviews appear on Amazon.com as part of your Amazon profile?

      To use this to your advantage, you can create a new Amazon profile centered around the theme of your site. You can even get an article printed on Amazon by filling out their “So You’d Like to...” guide or Listmania (visit amazon.com, then > Help > Friends & Services). And if your ebook/newsletter/book has an ISBN number, you can also partner with a webmaster in a parallel market and review each other’s books. The possibilities are as endless as your current Amazon.com profile.

      Use wordtracker to find high ranking sites for semi-popular keywords.

      Find sites in the top ten of those keywords that don’t have rankings yet. Suggest your site and several others as related links. It looks like Alexa is changing this information for sites that already have links to “Sites Linking In”. For now, the Related Links Suggestion Box is still available for every site by going to:

      - I have a feeling this may go away from the way they’ve started hiding it since yesterday, so do this step as soon as possible.

      If you’ve done this before, try partnering up with another web marketer and suggesting each other’s links to a pre-determined number of sites. Or, use your personal Amazon.com profile to suggest your link for other sites and your new target profile to suggest links for other sites.
   3.

      Find out your competitor’s ranking.

      If yours is higher, or at least close, proclaim yours proudly on your site with Alexa’s free dynamic traffic graph banner, which you can get from this page: alexa. Another great thing about this is that if you have an associate ID, Amazon will include your ID in your link and monetize the banner. They also have a site stats and traffic ranking graph if you prefer.
   4.

      Tell your repeat visitors about Alexa’s toolbar and the fact that it will now block pop-ups.

      I even saw one site link to their download page as a freebie. And why not? It benefits you both. Your visitors can selectively eliminate pop-ups, and you get another Alexa user visiting your site, thus increasing your ranking. Guess what else?

      According to this page: pages.alexa - any purchases made at Amazon using the new toolbar will earn you commissions. (They aren’t as particular as they used to be about new associates either. My site was approved overnight.) And if they have Netscape or use a Mac? There’s now the alexa snapshot, which doesn’t require installation.

      Testimonials

      When your customers give you testimonials or compliments about your site, offer them a free gift if they will reprint their testimonial at Alexa. If they can’t install the toolbar, you can direct them to alexa.

      Hard Evidence

      You can use the data as supporting evidence during a time period when you’re testing an affiliate product that would affect your traffic.       Stay In The Loop

      Keep up to date on Alexa’s top global 500. Often these sites correlate closely to the top 500 Google sites - and you could luck out and find a rapidly rising site that will link back to you.       Say Thank You.

      Thank fellow webmasters for their assistance by doing reviews of their site at Alexa. Then the next time you have cause to email them, mention the review and give permission for them to use it as a testimonial. This works nicely as an ice breaker for a join venture and is also a good way to show that your flattery is sincere, and not just of the smoke-blowing, scratch-my-back-and-I’ll-scratch-yours variety so many are used to online.

Increase your Alexa Rank

    The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis.

    The main Alexa traffic rank is based on the geometric mean of these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users)
Ways to Increase your Alexa Rank

Here is a collection of methods you can use to boost your Alexa Rank. Most of these tips are derived from several fellow webmasters I know who claimed to have derived positive results through their experiments with the Alexa Rankings.

Some of the other tips were derived articles and sources, which I have duly referenced at the end of this post.

Do these tips work? According to some, yes they definitely do work. But do note that most of them require active effort of some sort and hence, they will work as long as long as you are consistently performing specific actions.

To increase your Alexa rank in the long run, I would highly recommended that one focus on developing quality content which attracts and maintains a large audience instead of purely focusing on artificially increasing your Alexa Rank.

Great link-worthy content will leads to an natural increase in site traffic and is an excellent way to passively increase your Alexa rank.

It is important to emphasize that you should devote most of your efforts in growing your site audience alongside integrated implementation of any of the following tips below.

   1. Install the Alexa toolbar or Firefox’s Search Status extension and set your blog as your homepage. This is the most basic step.
   2. Put up an Alexa rank widget on your website. I did this a few days ago and receive a fair amount of clicks every day. According to some, each click counts as a visit even if the toolbar is not used by the visitor.
   3. Encourage others to use the Alexa toolbar. This includes friends, fellow webmasters as well as site visitors/blog readers. Be sure to link to Alexa’s full explanation of their toolbar and tracking system so your readers know what installing the toolbar or extension entails.
   4. Work in an Office or own a company? Get the Alexa toolbar or SS Firefox extension installed on all computers and set your website as the homepage for all browsers. Perhaps it will be useful to note that this may work only when dynamic or different IPs are used.
   5. Get friends to review and rate your Alexa website profile. Not entirely sure of its impact on rankings but it might help in some way.
   6. Write or Blog about Alexa. Webmaster and bloggers love to hear about ways to increase their Alexa rank. They’ll link to you and send you targeted traffic (i.e. visitors with the toolbar already installed). This gradually has effects on your Alexa ranking.
   7. Flaunt your URL in webmaster forums. Webmasters usually have the toolbar installed. You’ll get webmasters to visit your website and offer useful feedback. It’s also a good way to give back to the community if you have useful articles to share with others.
   8. Write content that is related to webmasters. This can fall in the category of domaining and SEO, two fields in which most webmasters will have the Alexa toolbar installed. Promote your content on social networking websites and webmaster forums.
   9. Use Alexa redirects on your website URL.Leave this redirected URL in blog comments as well as forum signatures. This redirect will count a unique IP address once a day so clicking it multiple times won’t help. There is no official proof that redirects positively benefit your Alexa Rank, so use with caution.
10. Post in Asian social networking websites or forums. Some webmasters have suggested that East Asian web users are big Alexa toolbar fans, judging by the presence of several Asia-based websites in the Alexa Top 500. I suggest trying this only if you have the time or capacity to do so.
11. Create a webmaster tools section on your website. This is a magnet for webmasters who will often revisit your website to gain access to the tools. Aaron Wall’s webpage on SEO Tools is a very good example.
12. Get Digg or Stumbled. This usually brings massive numbers of visitors to your website and the sheer amount will have a positive impact on your Alexa Rank. Naturally, you’ll need to develop link worthy material.
13. Use Pay per Click Campaigns. Buying advertisements on search engines such as Google or Exact Seek will help bring in Traffic. Doubly useful when your ad is highly relevant to webmasters.
14. Create an Alexa category on your blog and use it to include any articles or news about Alexa. This acts as an easily accessible resource for webmasters or casual search visitors while helping you rank in the search engines.
15. Optimize your popular posts. Got a popular post that consistently receives traffic from the search engines? Include a widget/graph at the bottom of the post, link to your Alexa post or use Alexa redirection on your internal URLs.
16. Buy banners and links for traffic from webmaster forums and websites. A prominent and well displayed ad will drive lots of webmaster traffic to your website, which can significantly boost your rank.
17. Hire forum posters to pimp your website. Either buy signatures in webmaster forums or promote specific articles or material in your website on a regular basis. You can easily find posters for hire in Digital Point and other webmaster forums.
18. Pay Cyber cafe owners to install the Alexa toolbar and set your website as the homepage for all their computers. This might be difficult to arrange and isn’t really a viable solution for most. I’m keeping this one in because some have suggested that it does work.
19. Use MySpace . This is a little shady so I don’t recommended it unless you’re really interested in artificially inflating your Alexa Rank. Use visually attractive pictures or banners and link them to your redirected Alexa URL. This will be most effective if your website has content that is actually relevant to the MySpace Crowd.

What is InstantBuzz?

InstantBuzz is a free traffic exchange program. After you sign up you install the InstantBuzz bar on your browser, and every time you visit a page on the Internet, the ad you made is displayed on an InstantBuzz bar on someone else’s Internet browser. Basically, the more you surf the Internet, the more your ad is displayed on the InstantBuzz toolbar.

Complaints About InstantBuzz

Many people complain about how they don’t receive very high click through ratings. Their ad may be get thousands of impressions, but yet only receive maybe one click. Click through rates are generally pretty low on InstantBuzz. The highest I have received is 0.2%. Out of 1000 displays (impressions) of my ad, around 2 people choose to click on it.

Instant Buzz Does Work!

I have been a member of InstantBuzz for awhile now, and while I don’t get thousands of Free Traffic Exchangevisitors clicking on my ads and visiting my sites every second, I do manage to get a couple of clicks here and there. When I used to use InstantBuzz to promote Agloco, I was able to get a referral for Agloco maybe once a month from my ads.

Currently I have been using InstantBuzz to promote EyeEarn. I set up my EyeEarn ads on InstantBuzz a little over a month ago, and just recently I had someone sign up for EyeEarn after clicking on my ad on InstantBuzz. InstantBuzz may not deliver tons of traffic, but I did receive a free referral from it!

Why Complain When InstantBuzz Is FREE?

InstantBuzz is free to use, so why complain? You may not receive HUGE results, but you could come out with more than what you had. I don’t even have to do anything to it, and I still get some visitors here and there. All I had to do was sign up for InstantBuzz, download the InstantBuzz bar, create my ads, and then let it go. Since then I have done nothing but what I usually do on the Internet. The great thing is I received a referral from it, without having to do anything extra! What’s the problem with that?

For me InstantBuzz is a free and easy way to get some extra traffic without having to do anything extra. I am using it now to promote EyeEarn, and as I said earlier, I just recently had someone click on my ad on InstantBuzz and sign up for EyeEarn. I didn’t even have to do anything to have that happen. The last time I did something with InstantBuzz was when I was making my ads for EyeEarn a little over a month ago!

Another great thing about InstantBuzz is that people who are actually interested in your ad will be the ones that click on it. There is no reward for clicking on ads, so when a person clicks on an ad, they are actually clicking on it out of interest instead of for their own benefit!

I have heard that some people say that the InstantBuzz bar slows down their Internet, while I don’t doubt them, I personally haven’t noticed any slow down since I have installed the InstantBuzz bar.

Okay maybe I shouldn’t post this as you know how much I hate dishonesty online.Still this isn’t dishonest just an easy way to get lots of instant buzz credits.

Across the Web, a trend is growing - webmasters display their graphical ranking on the front pages of their sites, and there has been a resurgence in reviews of websites on Alexa.com by the average web surfer. Yes, all this is common knowledge even among many new to selling their wares online.

But did you know that there are other ways you can use Alexa.com to your advantage, specifically exploiting some of their latest changes to your advantage? Here are 8 ways to use Alexa to promote your site.

      You probably already knew that Alexa Internet is owned by Amazon. But did you know that the reviews done on Alexa are now being linked to Amazon.com? Or, that the new reviews appear on Amazon.com as part of your Amazon profile?

      To use this to your advantage, you can create a new Amazon profile centered around the theme of your site. You can even get an article printed on Amazon by filling out their “So You’d Like to...” guide or Listmania (visit amazon.com, then > Help > Friends & Services). And if your ebook/newsletter/book has an ISBN number, you can also partner with a webmaster in a parallel market and review each other’s books. The possibilities are as endless as your current Amazon.com profile.

      Use wordtracker to find high ranking sites for semi-popular keywords.

      Find sites in the top ten of those keywords that don’t have rankings yet. Suggest your site and several others as related links. It looks like Alexa is changing this information for sites that already have links to “Sites Linking In”. For now, the Related Links Suggestion Box is still available for every site by going to:

      - I have a feeling this may go away from the way they’ve started hiding it since yesterday, so do this step as soon as possible.

      If you’ve done this before, try partnering up with another web marketer and suggesting each other’s links to a pre-determined number of sites. Or, use your personal Amazon.com profile to suggest your link for other sites and your new target profile to suggest links for other sites.

      Find out your competitor’s ranking.

      If yours is higher, or at least close, proclaim yours proudly on your site with Alexa’s free dynamic traffic graph banner, which you can get from this page: alexa. Another great thing about this is that if you have an associate ID, Amazon will include your ID in your link and monetize the banner. They also have a site stats and traffic ranking graph if you prefer.

The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis.

    The main Alexa traffic rank is based on the geometric mean of these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users)

Ways to Increase your Alexa Rank

Here is a collection of methods you can use to boost your Alexa Rank. Most of these tips are derived from several fellow webmasters I know who claimed to have derived positive results through their experiments with the Alexa Rankings.

Some of the other tips were derived articles and sources, which I have duly referenced at the end of this post.

Do these tips work? According to some, yes they definitely do work. But do note that most of them require active effort of some sort and hence, they will work as long as long as you are consistently performing specific actions.

To increase your Alexa rank in the long run, I would highly recommended that one focus on developing quality content which attracts and maintains a large audience instead of purely focusing on artificially increasing your Alexa Rank.

Great link-worthy content will leads to an natural increase in site traffic and is an excellent way to passively increase your Alexa rank.

It is important to emphasize that you should devote most of your efforts in growing your site audience alongside integrated implementation of any of the following tips below.

   1. Install the Alexa toolbar or Firefox’s Search Status extension and set your blog as your homepage. This is the most basic step.
   2. Put up an Alexa rank widget on your website. I did this a few days ago and receive a fair amount of clicks every day. According to some, each click counts as a visit even if the toolbar is not used by the visitor.
   3. Encourage others to use the Alexa toolbar. This includes friends, fellow webmasters as well as site visitors/blog readers. Be sure to link to Alexa’s full explanation of their toolbar and tracking system so your readers know what installing the toolbar or extension entails.
   4. Work in an Office or own a company? Get the Alexa toolbar or SS Firefox extension installed on all computers and set your website as the homepage for all browsers. Perhaps it will be useful to note that this may work only when dynamic or different IPs are used.
   5. Get friends to review and rate your Alexa website profile. Not entirely sure of its impact on rankings but it might help in some way.
   6. Write or Blog about Alexa. Webmaster and bloggers love to hear about ways to increase their Alexa rank. They’ll link to you and send you targeted traffic (i.e. visitors with the toolbar already installed). This gradually has effects on your Alexa ranking.
   7. Flaunt your URL in webmaster forums. Webmasters usually have the toolbar installed. You’ll get webmasters to visit your website and offer useful feedback. It’s also a good way to give back to the community if you have useful articles to share with others.
   8. Write content that is related to webmasters. This can fall in the category of domaining and SEO, two fields in which most webmasters will have the Alexa toolbar installed. Promote your content on social networking websites and webmaster forums.
   9. Use Alexa redirects on your website URL.Leave this redirected URL in blog comments as well as forum signatures. This redirect will count a unique IP address once a day so clicking it multiple times won’t help. There is no official proof that redirects positively benefit your Alexa Rank, so use with caution.
10. Post in Asian social networking websites or forums. Some webmasters have suggested that East Asian web users are big Alexa toolbar fans, judging by the presence of several Asia-based websites in the Alexa Top 500. I suggest trying this only if you have the time or capacity to do so.
11. Create a webmaster tools section on your website. This is a magnet for webmasters who will often revisit your website to gain access to the tools. Aaron Wall’s webpage on SEO Tools is a very good example.
12. Get Digg or Stumbled. This usually brings massive numbers of visitors to your website and the sheer amount will have a positive impact on your Alexa Rank. Naturally, you’ll need to develop link worthy material.
13. Use Pay per Click Campaigns. Buying advertisements on search engines such as Google or Exact Seek will help bring in Traffic. Doubly useful when your ad is highly relevant to webmasters.
14. Create an Alexa category on your blog and use it to include any articles or news about Alexa. This acts as an easily accessible resource for webmasters or casual search visitors while helping you rank in the search engines.
15. Optimize your popular posts. Got a popular post that consistently receives traffic from the search engines? Include a widget/graph at the bottom of the post, link to your Alexa post or use Alexa redirection on your internal URLs.
16. Buy banners and links for traffic from webmaster forums and websites. A prominent and well displayed ad will drive lots of webmaster traffic to your website, which can significantly boost your rank.
17. Hire forum posters to pimp your website. Either buy signatures in webmaster forums or promote specific articles or material in your website on a regular basis. You can easily find posters for hire in Digital Point and other webmaster forums.
18. Pay Cyber cafe owners to install the Alexa toolbar and set your website as the homepage for all their computers. This might be difficult to arrange and isn’t really a viable solution for most. I’m keeping this one in because some have suggested that it does work.
19. Use MySpace . This is a little shady so I don’t recommended it unless you’re really interested in artificially inflating your Alexa Rank. Use visually attractive pictures or banners and link them to your redirected Alexa URL. This will be most effective if your website has content that is actually relevant to the MySpace Crowd.
